'Super Bowl Of Bass Fishing' Coming To Upstate

Professional anglers will be wetting their lines in Lake Hartwell early next year, chasing a $500,000 prize in the 2008 Bassmaster Classic.
Greenville has been picked to play host to the event, which brings 50 of the top-ranked professional fishermen and women along with national television exposure.
The event has been described as the "Super Bowl of Bass Fishing."
ESPN2 will devote 13 hours of programming to the event over the three-day run.
The event will be held Feb. 22-24, with the fishing in Lake Harwell and the daily weigh-in sat the Bi-Lo Center.
The field will set out from Portman Marina in Anderson County, which is located just off Interstate 85 and about 25 miles from the Bi-Lo Center.
"We look forward to welcoming professional anglers, industry leaders and bass fishing enthusiasts to Greenville's vibrant community," Greenville Mayor Knox White said in a BASS news release. "This unique tournament will draw considerable attendance and publicity for our beautiful region."
The classic is being held in South Carolina for the first time since 1973, when the event was held in McCormick.
The event was held in Birmingham, Ala., last year and in Charlotte in 2004.
The BASS professional fishing tour made a stop in Manning, S.C., earlier this month.
Lake Hartwell has been the site of three previous BASS tour events.
In addition to the Fishing event, the annual ESPN Outdoors Classic Expo, will be held Feb. 22-24 at the Carolina First Center in Greenville.
The Women?s Bassmaster Tour Championship event and the Junior Bassmaster World Championship will be held at the same time on Lake Keowee.
