"BONUS" TROUT PROVIDE EXTRA OPPORTUNITIES
#1
Pennsylvania trout anglers are receiving a bonus of sorts - 21,000 additional trout. The fish are "extras" raised under contract by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Lamar National Fish Hatchery andNortheast Fishery Center.

The center is under contract to provide the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) with 100,000 adult trout annually. The additional fish represent a surplus - and extra opportunities.
"Raising fish is not like cranking pieces out on an assembly line. It's a live product and production goals are generally established as a range rather than an exact figure. In this case, production came out on the high end of the range. As a result, we're able to add some additional stockings in some suitable waters," said Brian Wisner, Director of Fish Production for the PFBC.
The first of those stockings came today, with fish planted in section 3 of the Brodhead Creek, Monroe County; Section 4 ofthe Nesquehoning Creek in Carbon County; and Section 4 of Pohopoco Creek, alsoin Carbon County.
Stockings are planned for June 20 in sections 13 and 14 of Fishing Creek, Clinton County, and June 21 in Section 3 of Kinzua Creek,South Branch in McKean County.
Several additional stockings are in the planning stages.
