I have three candidates for saltwater use, i'd be fishing mainly Scotland Bridge and the Route 1 bridge in York, Maine for whatever's running (typically Blues and Stripers), i'll be using both bait and lures
Rod 1;
Shakespeare Saltwater spinning combo, a 8' Ugly Stik Bigwater rod and a Shakespeare Prius reel filled with 20lb mono
Rod 2; Shakespeare Ugly Stik Classic rod, 6'6" Medium Freshwater with a Shakespeare 3 bearing reel with One Way Clutch, spooled with 12lb Cajun Red mono
Rod 3; Shimano BassOne Mag LH retrieve baitcaster on Berkley Lightning Rod Pro 6'6" Medium Action
the two Shakespeares are currenty being used for saltwater, the 8' for bait and heavier lures (3/4 oz to 3 oz), and the 6'6" is primarily for finesse fishing/tossing lures like 1/2 oz Kastmasters and Daredevle spoons
the baitcaster i bought a while back just to give it a try, and i never really warmed up to it, as it was too powerful for the smallish freshwater fish in my area (small bucketmouths, smallies, pickerel, yellow perch, trout, etc....)
i know the BassOne is an entry level setup, and not designed for dealing with monster saltwater fish, would there be any point to use this for saltwater bridge/dock fishing?
generaly, the stripers around here are schoolies, 23-26 inchers mostly, the occasional 40ish is caught, but it's rare in my area, would my BassOne rig be okay for them?
more to the point, is there any advantage of a baitcaster over a spinning rig for bridge/dock fishing?
thanks in advance
