Well, I made my way over to Deer Creek this morning to see what I could stir up. I finally bought myself a topo map of Deer Creek so I could try and find a few more hotspots. Last night I marked a few spots on the map to run around to today and explore. Got on the water around 6AM and headed to the first spot to check out. Started off throwing a Lucky Craft Sammy topwater bait and on the third cast got smashed by a big bass. She didn't get a good hold of the bait though and didn't eat it. Fished the sammy for another 10 minutes only to catch a bunch of dinks. Began throwing a TubeDude special buzzbait in the same area, and continued to catch small smallmouths. Then what looked to be a 13-14" smallie chased the buzzbait and swiped at it 3 times missing it every time as it came to the boat. A few casts later, a 3lb smallie viciously swiped at the buzzbait right as I was pulling it out of the water at the boat. Got fed up with these good fish not actually eating my topwaters, so I turned around and threw a bass stalker finesse jig. On back to back casts I boated a pair of 2lb smallies. Moved to the next spot to check out around 9AM. Spot number two proved to be a good largemouth area. Began throwing the buzzbait and boated a pair of largemouths 13 & 14". Then caught a bunch more small bass on the buzz. Next pass, I started throwing a lipless crankbait...caught a bunch of dinks along with four largemouths in the 12-15" range. Then I hooked into the big fish of the day around 10:45AM...an 18.5" largemouth just shy of 4lbs. That's my best largemouth yet for Deer Creek. Made another pass on this spot throwing a finesse worm on one of TubeDude's jigheads and boated 3 more largemouths 12-14". After that I made a few quick passes on a few other spots that I had marked on the map with no success but dinks. Off the water at 11:30 when my trolling motor batteried quit on me...not a bad day...

They're not too bad during the weekdays. Weekends are horrendous. If you get out early enough on a weekday you can avoid most of them...they do start getting annoying around 11-12 though...

Nice fish, which ramp is open? Last time we were there, levels were dangerously lowfor the prop.

Yeah, I moved back to Orem. I wasn't terribly excited about it. I had thought that my life in Orem was done and over with and I've kind of been moving on with my life. But my wife wasn't ready for that yet, so we're back here for a while. And yes, that is my boat in the pics. I got it a few months ago while down in St. George. I'm all up for getting back out there and beatin' up on 'em. Maybe we'll have to find some team tournaments to fish or something. I'm going to have Cliff fill me in on all the different tournament schedules in the area so I can start taking some money just like you and I always used to do. har har!

In the last couple of weeks I've tried launching at both ramps, and it seems that the state park is the best way to go. I tried launching at the rainbow bay area, but that was a little scary. I haven't had any problems launching at the state park though...
