The NJ DEP Division of Fish & Wildlife is offering workshop opportunities this August at its Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center, located in Barnegat Bay just off of Island Beach State Park. The price for these workshops includes all instruction, food and beverages, equipment, facility use, lodging, and professional development credits.
Teacher Training Workshop - $125
Choose between two dates: August 8-10, 2007 OR August 15-17, 2007<br />
While staying two nights on the Island, participants will be immersed in a conservation lifestyle and explore the estuarine environment using hands-on methods including marsh walks, kayak tours, and conventional fishing, crabbing, and clamming techniques. Further investigation of the marine environment is done using nets, microscopes, field guides, and more. The activities offered provide first-hand insight to the wise use of New Jersey's natural resources, their importance and the role the Division plays in their management. Participants will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of the entire ecosystem that you will be able to convey to your students. Teachers can earn 18 professional development credits and will receive a packet of activities to use in the classroom.

Project WET, Project Aquatic WILD and WOW! Wonders of the Wetlands -$150.00 Aug. 12-14, 2007 In this three-in-one workshop, participants get to spend two nights at the Sedge Island facility while delving into these three activity guides, that can be incorporated into existing curricula for grades K-12. These guides offer activities that focus on water education, wetlands, aquatic wildlife and aquatic ecosystems. As part of the workshop, participants will get to discover the surrounding salt marsh and bay life as we explore these guides.<br />
Educators will earn 18 professional development credits and will receive the curriculum and activity guides for Project WET, Project Aquatic WILD and WOW! Wonders of the Wetlands.
