Fort Collins, Colorado - The 2007 Colorado Youth Waterfowl Season opens on Saturday, September 22 and continues into Sunday, September 23. Each year for the past five years, Dynamic Decoys has sponsored a youth hunt to coincide with the Colorado Youth Waterfowl Season. This year, five young men, ranging in age from 12 to 16 will hunt the youth season for Canada Geese and Ducks.
"We see the youth season as an opportunity to celebrate hunting and pass our hunting heritage on to the next generation," stated Dynamic Decoys founder, Jeff Lewis. "It's great that the kids get the chance to have the first hunt of the year. So often, they have to compete with dads and older friends during the main season, the youth season lets them have the hunt to themselves."
Unlike previous years where the youth hunt was a guided hunt with an outfitter, this year the youth hunters will run the hunt. Although there will be dads and mentors in the field to monitor the hunt in accordance with state regulations, the young guns will be responsible for all aspects of the hunt: from choosing the spot in the field, to setting decoys, to calling the birds, and lastly, calling the shot. "This year really shows the results of what we've been working towards for the past five years. The kids have been educated how to hunt the right way and now they'll get a chance to do it on their own and demonstrate their values and skills as hunters."
The hunts will also be filmed for Dynamic Decoys' Young Guns DVD production. Two DVD productions have been released based on previous youth hunts and this year's hunt will contribute to the third DVD. The Young Guns DVDs include great youth hunting footage and focus on the safety and sportsmanship aspects of the sport.
