"Treasures & Traditions" Launch Exceeds All Expectations
#1
Last week's launch of the Hunting Heritage Trust's innovative "Treasures & Traditions" program has been labeled an outstanding success, with more than 24,000 potential bidders flocking to the online auction of donated hunting and shooting treasures on GunBroker.com. In addition to enthusiastic bidding, several hundred items, including more than 50 firearms, have been donated for the weekly auctions.

"This program was launched based on our conviction that there are many dedicated hunters and shooters who have firearms and other hunting and shooting collectibles that they may never use again and that they would be willing to donate to help ensure the future of our hunting and shooting heritage," commented, Bob Delfay, President of the Hunting Heritage Trust. "But this response has truly exceeded our expectations, both in terms of the generous donations and the enthusiastic bidding," Delfay announced.

The program kicked off on September 10 with the listing of five items on Gun Broker.com. During the first week, more than 24,900 viewers checked out the first week's items including a Winchester Model 12 shotgun, a Ruger rifle, a Leupold-Stevens "VIP Experience, Doskocil gun case and hunting clothing. "The number of viewers and bidders has been exceeded only by their enthusiasm," Delfay said. "We knew that we had a great partner in GunBroker.com but we had no idea that so many potential buyers would view our items or bid so actively in a short period of time," he said.

"We welcomed this partnership as a way to show our dedication to the future of the hunting and shooting sports," commented Steve Urvan, founder of GunBroker.com. "We had no doubt that our registered bidders would make the program a success, but I have to confess some surprise at the tremendous number of bidders and the level of the bids that we have received in the first few days of the program. We are really excited about watching the momentum build over the coming weeks." The items in this week's auction, which include a rare Savage shotgun, can be viewed at www.GunBroker.com.

Donations to the program are being solicited from individual hunters and shooters and from industry. All donors will be provided with appropriate receipts to substantiate their income tax deductions.

It is a commitment of the Hunting Heritage Trust and GunBroker.com that funds generated will benefit a wide variety of worthwhile organizations and initiatives. "One of the things that attracted us to this program is the Heritage Trust's commitment to share proceeds with other groups and to earmark 100% of certain auction proceeds to specific groups and causes," Urvan said.

The Hunting Heritage Trust is recognized as a 501c3 public charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Since its founding in 2002, the Trust has awarded numerous grants in support of public education, youth programs, shooting safety, women's hunting and shooting outreach and other programs. A major Trust initiative for 2007-2008 is production of a documentary for public television exploring the cultural and historic importance of hunting in our nation.
