EFTTA would like their Members to consider a Youth Grant application from the UK-based National Federation of Anglers (NFA) who have put in a request to find a member to assist with their angling education programme.
The NFA wants to provide 15 organisations which work with young people - including schools, youth groups and voluntary organisations - a sustainable angling presence through the NFA coaching and education programme.
The NFA currently has an educational qualification called "˜An Introduction to Angling and the Environment' which is accredited nationally by the OCN (Open College Network). It teaches young people how to appreciate and respect the environment using the interesting, fun, enjoyable and interactive method of angling.
Tom Goldspink of the NFA said: "The course is delivered by NFA Level One coaches who teach both the theoretical elements of the course and also assist in the practical delivery of angling.
"Through working with EFTTA and an EFTTA member, we would be able to provide 15 1st4Sport Level One accredited angling coaches, who would be able to deliver angling into these 15 organisations which work with young people.
"Not only will a newly trained coach be able to deliver "˜Introduction to Angling and the Environment', but they will also be able to provide a sustainable angling presence within the group which they work with.
"Dependant on the type of organisation, there will be scope for after school clubs, days out and other opportunities where angling can provide a facility for more young people to go fishing."
The NFA wants 15 coaches to get the qualification and by working in the local community they can also be linked to local angling clubs which will enable them to enhance their ability to introduce more young people into angling.
Added Tom: "Coaching is an essential part of developing any sport and with the support of EFTTA and the EFTTA members, the NFA will be able to introduce angling to many more young people. Although the scheme would last for one year, the lifetime value of the programme would run long after the end date creating a sustainable future of angling coaching."

EFTTA matches any funding given by a member, to a maximum of 2,000 euros. All projects seeking support must recruit financial sponsorship from an existing EFTTA member before approaching the Board of Directors to apply for the grant.
