Flaming Gorge
#1
I hired TarponJim today for a day of fishing out on the Gorge... we hit the water at about 745 and had our first fish at about 830... I learned a whole new way of fishing that I had not done before... we were off of the water by about 200

I ended up with a burbot a 4 lber, a 5lber a 10lber and a 16lber... it was a great day..

if you are interesed in fishing for lake trout I higly reccomend hiring tarpon jim...

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]That is some nice flat water in your pictures! It don't get much better than that![/size][/black][/font]

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]So you caught a burbot that hit a jig. Without compromising any details, can you eloborate how and in what conditions you hooked up on it? Was it out in the bay, on a rock point, water depth, etc. Thanks.[/size][/black][/font]

It ate a white jig on the deeper edge (75 feet) of a rock pile in Linwood, right in there with a stack of macks waiting to move up on the rock pile.

That looked like some nice macks; I'm hoping to get over to the George this winter and make a few less burbot in the lake. I hear they are good eating!!!!

If you know; Talk about it; IF NOT; SHUT UP![shocked]

That burbot is getting front row seats to feast on eggs I bet . I noticed trout eggs in the burbot I caught last year at buckboard on the ice . I actual took a float tube out in that bay years ago . Never hooked up either .

No. Hell no! Getting rid of that windshield was the 2nd-best thing I ever did to that boat. (Best being removing all the seats!). It was like adding 2 feet to the boat, the front angler has WAY more room to "fish forward" like you're supposed to, and its far easier to walk to the front of the boat to the trolling motor or to snap a picture.

I do have a plan for a wind block when it gets cold though. That won't come into play until it gets down into the teens. It should block more wind than the windshield ever did. (will know in a week or two, maybe when we hit the Bear).

First, let me say Thanks to Aaron for a fun day. You learned a lot on your first trip, caught some fish, and got a nice one, all on a bluebird calm day. You're off and running now.

Now for you other two mack-diseased clowns.[Wink] Just the facts. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

1. I can hook 60-80 percent of my bites with my rod 3 inches from the windshield. Everyone else just whined about fishing around the windshield. And they all wanted to fish with their rods straight out the side of the boat, ruining their presentation and interferring with the angler behind them who might have been doing it right (standing and fishing forward).

2. If you guys want to drive the boat with your face forward at 30 mph behind "my" windshield, I'd be more than happy to let you drive (in December) while I sit on the cooler with my hood up and back to the wind, like any sane passenger would do. You don't have to sit there and face into it! I can't drive the boat facing backwards.

3. If you'd like to sit in my seat BEHIND said windshield and hold the boat, I'd be happy to stand up, away from the windshield, with my hands and feet facing forward, holding a rod, and catch lake trout faster than you can turn your head!

The bottom line, if one single person since I got that boat would have stood up next to that windshield and faced forward with the rod in the proper position all day, the windshield would still be there. All I heard, day after day, when I told someone next to me to stand up and hold that rod next to the windshield and face forward and think about maybe catching a fish . . . was, "But I can't." "Its awkward." "I'm too close to the windshield." Excuses, excuses. Then, when someone miraculously got a bite and finally got around to attempting to set the hook, (the part where you're supposed to snap the rod tip UP) the rod would somehow end up right against the windshield. How, is still beyond me, but I saw it time and time again.

I can catch 'em just fine fishing right next to the windshield. Nobody else seemed to be able to do it. When the windshield came out, the catch rate in the seat next to me jumped exponentially! No coincidence. I should have removed it DAY ONE, just like the sun-bathing seats. My mistake.

[sly][sly][sly]

LOL

PS. If you can't fish perfect in the weather presented on a given day without the crutch of windshields, covers, canvasses, heaters, etc., then we shouldn't be out there in the first place. That's what summer is for! And that's why someone created Florida! Geeze, if it was easy, Girl Scouts could do it, right Don? [Wink]

Anybody want some prime open days in November and December?????? LOL

Rant concluded.[Tongue]
