#1
Springfield, Missouri-Dr. Chris Farmer knows sports-sports medicine that is. As the newly named medical director for the upcoming Outdoor Fitness Festival, Dr. Farmer has an impressive resume that shows he is more than up to the challenge.

Hosted by Bass Pro Shops and sponsored by New Balance, the "Outdoor Fitness Festival" will be November 2nd through 4th and consists of fitness events, health and wellness activities and outdoor adventures for the whole family. The festival will also feature the first ever Bass Pro Shops-Springfield Marathon and the 29th annual Cohick Half Marathon.

To insure the safety and wellness of the participants, The Outdoor Fitness Festival will be presided over by a medical team approach headed up by Dr. Farmer and includes members of St. John's Sports Medicine, physicians, athletic trainers and EMS services.

Dr. Farmer, a member of St. John's Clinic since July 2005, has treated sports medicine patients at St. John's Clinic-Nixa-Orthopedics and St John's Clinic-Orthopedic Specialists. He received his medical education from the University of Missouri in 2000 and completed a family practice residency in 2003 and a sports medicine fellowship in 2005, both at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospitals and Clinics.

He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians.

Other precautionary medical efforts being provided by St. John's EMS services include 4 bike team medics who will ride in teams of 2 staged appropriately. These bike team members are fully certified Advanced Life Support Responders. A medical golf cart ambulance staffed at the ALS level will follow the bulk of the runners. Also, an ALS ambulance will be posted at the main Bass Pro Shops location and will be dedicated to the event.
