Super Retriever Series Coming To Huntsville, Alabama
#1
Huntsville, Alabama--More than 125 well-mannered, high-flying and energetic canines from across the country will be putting their best paws forward when they converge on Huntsville later this month for the third week of competition in the 2007-2008 Super Retriever Series.

The seven year old, made-for-tv Series will be making its first appearance in Alabama when Huntsville host the event October 31 through November 3. Retrievers will compete in three separate events: Retriever Trials, at The Jones Farm (Jones Valley), and the Super Fly and Super V competitions at Valley Bend Shopping Center.

" As an outdoorsman and a member of Ducks Unlimited, I became aware of this series when it started back in 2001," said Ralph Stone, executive director of the Huntsville Sports Commission.

"I felt Huntsville would be a wonderful location to host one of the competitions because of our outstanding outdoor opportunities and because of the great base of people here who enjoy the outdoors," he said.

The Huntsville Sports Commission is a not-for-profit advocacy organization that promotes an enhanced quality of life in the Huntsville area by identifying, recruiting, and promoting amateur sports events and meetings.

The Commission worked for more than six months to attract the Super Retriever Series. The four day event is expected to have a $250,000 economic impact on the city, according to Stone. Along with Huntsville, other venues for the 2007-2008 Series include Reno, Nev.; Martin, Tenn.; Louisburg, N.C.; Dyersburg, Tenn.; and the SRS Amateur Qualifier and SRS Championship in central Arkansas.

The Super Retriever Series is broadcast on Versus, one of the fastest growing cable television networks in the country. A complete TV schedule can be found at their web site: www.versus.com.

"Congratulations are in order to Huntsville for successfully attracting this popular series to the region," said Dana Lee Jennings, President & CEO of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Association (AMLA). AMLA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the travel industry within the 16 northernmost counties of the state. It is supported by 470-plus members.

"Not only does the event promise many exciting and high energy teams to watch but is it also an opportunity to showcase North Alabama's diverse outdoor opportunities to television viewers across America," said Jennings. AMLA will host an on-site Press and Information Center throughout the competition.

During the Retriever Trials competition teams are judged on their ability to handle voice, hand or whistle commands, and trial scenarios such as retrieving a marker during a mock bird hunt.

The crowd pleasing Super Fly event consist of retrievers running along a 40-foot dock before launching as far as 18-feet into a pool of water.

The dynamic Super V utilizes a Vertical Extender to suspend a bumper eight-feet out from the end of a dock, from which the dog hurls himself in an attempt to retrieve.
