New to Forum
#1
Hi All. Im brand new to this forum. I'm not new to float tube hunting been doing it for years. I am new to float tube fishing. I'm just getting back into tubing after several years leave. I just got a new Trout Unlimited Bighorn Float Tube. I liked it because it was in Camo with a matching poncho.
I guess its a good one. I could only find one on the internet for $195. Anyone have experience with this one?

[cool][#0000ff]I fished from a Trout Unlimited Kennebec for a couple of years. There were not too many things I really liked about it. And, we have had several BFTers who have had the Bighorn. Some like it better than others. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]For the most part, TU puts their name on craft they have manufactured for them. The craft are generally well made and are probably priced about right. However, depending upon the type of fishing you do, and your budget, you might be happier with other models. The air chambers are less durable vinyl, and the valves are known to have problems. There have also been some issues with seam failure on the covers. My biggest complaint is that they have a decent sized pocket area but the pocket is divided up into several small pockets instead of one big one. That is okay for the small fly boxes and stuff of a fly flinger, but for a basser...with larger lure boxes...it is unhandy.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]In short, you will probably love your tube...until you have experienced it enough to be able to compare it with others. Then you will see some features on other craft that will make you want to upgrade.[/#0000ff]

Welcome, and tell me about the hunting. How does it feel when you fire your shotgun?

I use the tube for deer hunting.
Like fish its easier to sneak up on the big deer in a tube boat than with a powerboat. Its a lot of fun.
I live in Central MS. So you know tubing is not real popular. I don't know if i would try with out a gun. I'm going to try fishing this spring. I may be changing to a toon though. I'm going to give the Trout Unlimited Bighorn Float Tube a try. If that doesn't work right I buy a pontoon or kayak. A SOT kayak is very reasonable in this area. Has there been anyone from the south that fishes with a tube?

[cool][#0000ff]I spent several months on a work assignment in New Orleans...a few years before Katrina. Fished mostly during the cooler months when the "slithergoodies" were snoozin' in their hidey holes. I took a tube on many backwaters and bayous and on larger bays and saltwater canals. Got lots of fish and lots of curiosity from the "locals". WHADDAT?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Here's some pics and narrative I copied from the Picture Board section on Saltwater Fish.[/#0000ff]

Speckled sea trout, taken from a saltwater canal off the Gulf of Mexico, south of New Orleans.

A nice 24" sea trout. Legal size is 12" and average is about 14" to 16". They get to 12#.

When the specks "are in" you can limit quickly.

A mix of reds and specks (red drum and speckled sea trout) from a ship channel near Buras, Louisiana. The largest redfish was 33" and 13#. They are fantastic targets from a tube or toon.

Same group of fish, in better detail. Note the "eye" spots on the tails of the reds. They usually have only one, but some individuals sport several.

Mix of reds and flounders. The little flatfish will smack the same plastics and spoons fished for reds and specks. All are great on the table.
