It's a pretty fun pay to play lake. AnNy fly will work, but smaller wooly buggers, hare's ears, copper johns, and chironomid patterns have been the best for me over the years. Fishing is always decent, but after they dump more fish in it can be a 50+ fish a day lake. The largest I have ever seen in there was a 12 pounder caught by a 14 year old girl a few years ago.

What's is the best way to fish Nymphs in stillwater? I've only used streamers and would like to try numphs but am not sure what techniques to use.

Cast them out, let them sink, and slowly twitch retrieve them. You can also fish them under an indicator dead drifted. At Clear Lake there is some current, actually quite a bit near the flumes, and you can fish that water like a stream.
It is definitley a float tube or pontoon lake.

You go to the clubhouse at the golf course aqnd pay there. No reservations needed, but if the weather is bad, I'd call and make sure they are open. I once drove there through a snow storm, and they left as I drove up. We turned around and went to the Farmhouse for breakfast.

We used to fish it several times a year for fun, sinking line, different buggers, nymphs, and occational hatches on the top, bring a few different colors, they can be keyed in on a particular color. Find the main flume or hit the other smaller flumes. We often did well using a small dropper off a bugger or other big fly. We used to catch alot of healthy rainbows. It started getting too crowded so we havent been back in awhile. Go mid week if you can. have fun

We try to fish Clear lake once or twice a year. It's a fun place. A great place for folks new to fly fishing or new to the tube. You can catch lots of fish. And for being hatchery fish..... they can jump 2 feet out of the water. They are usually great fighters.
Anyway, as far as how I fish it.... I usually put on a bigger dry fly (Attractor pattern) and then drop a brassie, RS2, or a small blood midge. About 15 to 20 inches below my dry. It usually works great. Especially if you fish one of the falls and work the currents. Last year there were tons of Albinos. You could see them everywhere.

I love clear lakes and I usually fish it the 1st week in April. It is too cold here in Rexburg and it is generally pretty warm in the canyon. Everyone has explained how to fish it. I would concentrate on the flumes. One year the fish went crazy and I was catching them on Chernobyle ants on top. I usually start with nymphs and then put on small dries as the water warms during the day.

It depends on the road conditions but it usually takes 2 1/2 hours. I usually fish an afternoon then stay at a hotel then fish the next morning before I come home. It is a fun lake to get the toon out and get back in the swing of things with the flyrod.

I only had two hits, and the best one happened when I watched my attractor go dragging across the water. The fish took the san juan worm and went. Now I will always make sure my flies are tied on tight and right. Well other then that it was dead. There were a few others on the lake with no success at all. Must have been a bad time to go… Does anyone know of a good time to go? I took a first timer (my brother) trying to get him hooked on fly fishing, but as you can tell did not go as planned.
