The East Magic Resort just posted an update on fishing, and reports that they have drilled lots of holes and it is all small perch being caught. They say a few large trout have been reported, but mostly perch dinkers. Mike

I had checked that site out this morning, but I was looking for info from folks that might have fished near the dam, or up the lake. I do appreciate the heads up though.

Well it was cold, and the lake is smaller than last year this time. I caught 5 or 6 trout and 50 perch (+ or -). I only brought 25 or so home, the rest were too small. Several of the perch were over 12 and we got one trout that was 6 pounds or so. We got several trout in the 18 inch range.

Ice is 17 inches thick. Leave the hand augers home.

We were fishing right in front of the resort. There isn't much water, so it really concentrates the people. Just go fish by everyone else. Fishing at Magic is more of a social event anyway, just be nice to your neighbors.

Well I also fished Magic this weekend... there were 10 of us total in our party and we fished near the dam. Perch were of all age classes and lots of them. They were concentrated by the rocks and rather close to shore. Hot bite from 9am to about 2:30 then it went dead. Caught a few small trout and saw one nice one taken early in the am by a guy right by the dam. We only kept a dozen or so perch out of the 200+ we caught. Lots of little ones and it kept the girls busy putting more bait on. REALLY LOW!!! Be sure to take caution around the edges... its slowly filling.
