[unimpressed]DR, I'm just having a heckuva time getting enthused about any kind of fishing.
It's cold! I went to the local TU meeting Saturday. I have a list of guys to call now, the missing members, and I empithize with them. It's just too cold to be thinking about wading a stream right now. Additionally we have absolutly no water. The stream (Sipsy River) is just about stagnant. Some kind of Grass or Algae that provides the Entimology for the Trout is nearly all dead or floating when it should be submerged. The folks who own the Dam are under pressure from people above and below the dam to provide more water. I can just hear the Engineer saying "Call God for more water. Then we'll talk about sharing some when it gets here!" Some idiots are talking about law suits. Over what? No water? How droll some people can be. Our Rainbow are all plants. But we wont be getting any new fish till we get some water. What the heck's happening?[mad] Whatever it is, it's gonna be awhile before the answer shows up. Till then, I'm staying inside with my toes up near the stove! In the meanwhile send us some of that rain you guys are putting up with. [signature]

[font "Pristina"][green][size 4]Hi there Thudpucker - sorry to hear about all the problems you all are having down there. I understand that it is just as bad in Georgia. Last year we had less than three inches of rain. [Our season is from July 1st to June 30th. And the snow pack up in the Sierras wasn't very good either. The weather forecasters claimed that we were going to have another dry year since a La Nina was in effect. Guess what? This past week it rained almost every day during which we had over 6" of rain. The snow pack in the Sierras is 110% for this time of the year. So perhaps the rain Gods might bless you all for you sure need a good soaking. [/size][/green][/font]

We are outstanding here in Utah. Water levels are well over. Just pray it doesn't warm too quickly. I can't believe I just said that, but you know what I mean.
I am assuming Idaho is getting a good supply also. Now Nevada wants to dig wells tapping into our water (the down hill effect) and our southern farmers are fighting with everything they got. Maybe it is time to stop building SO MUCH! this is a DESERT! Hang in there Thudpucker and keep us updated on what is happening. [signature]

Yes Ma'am, those sudden thaws can be as bad as any Rainy weather.
In my years in Alaska we had Rain on top of our frozen ground at least two times in the winter. And several of the sudden breakups that caused floods on flat ground, and the rivers overflowed taking structures downriver with the ice. But here and over in Georgia I dont think we'll be facing the floods that Fly Goddes is looking at. I figured we'd have to have 135 straight days of at least a half inch of rain each day to bring us back to normal. If we got more than a half inch each day, then we'd have those floods to deal with. I doubt if we'll get that kind of rain though. What a weird year for weather. Must be the Russians or the Iranians.....? [signature] |
