American Falls Reservoir 2/11/08
#1
I fished American Falls Reservoir from sunrise to about 1pm today. Edge ice was slushy but no board was needed to get on the ice. However, the snow was melting and the reservoir is filling up. If I go again later this week I will likely be using a board to get on the ice. Having a power auger was nice today because the ice was close to 2 feet thick. the weather was nice but the steady wind forced me to put on my gloves several times.

I had a difficult time trying to catch any trout because I couldn't keep the little perch off the hook. The only trout I caught was surprisingly a nice sized cutthroat. I also caught a whitefish today. First time I've caught a cutthroat or whitefish out of American Falls. I attached a couple pictures. One of some of the perch I kept and the other is of the whitefish. I dumped the cutthroat back down the hole before taking any pictures.

Hi,

Were you at the dam or were you by the Aberdeen boat ramp area?

I was out by Aberdeen. I'm going to go back in the morning and I'll post another report.

Hi,

I was there this morning and almost all day. I was the one who has the red Avalanche that was parked at the top of the boat ramp. I did real good on perch and caught quite a few that were really good sized. No trout. I have fished there (5) times this winter and done good on perch but have yet to catch a trout. I was fishing over by the two gazebos just about directly between them.

brchsr,

I was also on there Tuesday. I drive a single cab red Toyota Tacoma and parked close to the top of the boat ramp just SE of the main boat ramp. I've been busy and haven't had time to post a report yet. I'll post a report with pictures sometime later this morning. I was about 175 yards East of the main boat ramp. That would have put me 400-500 yards SE of you. I remember seeing a guy out by the gazebos. I did get a couple nice sized trout and many perch but only a few worth keeping.

*******edit because I said West when I was thinking East[crazy]***
