First off, id like to say that i have yet to find a forum filled with more information then this. Im lucky enough to say that my best friend moved away to a place with only fresh water fishing, so i sort of came up on a free salt water set up. The set up that was given to me was a Fenwick salt stick and a tecota 500. I put 30 lb test mono on it ( i know that was most likely my first mistake.) I went to the pier and hooked something huge, and it swam under the pier while trying to wrestle it, then my salt stick snapped in two! I went down to boaters world and picked up a new seeker 870? 15 -20-30 i think. I haven't gone out yet with the new rod but my experiences so far on the boat have not been to grand. Ive been going out on a local santa barbara boat for the last month and i haven't yet been able to catch anything that i can keep. Let me just say that i am so excited for rock fish season to start back up. I have caught smaller leen cod and some smaller rock fish. The Stardust has been staying fairly close to shore fishing over structures and some kelp beds. Id really appreciate some feed back on what lb test i should be running for local fish and some tips and tricks on how to reel in the big ones(that i can keep and feast upon.) Thank you all so much, Oliver.
