Texas PWD Freshwater Fishing Reports Update February 13, 2008

ALAN HENRY

Water lightly stained; 54 degrees; 0.71' low. Black bass are fair on dark jigs suspended in timber and along rocky drop-offs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs.

AMISTAD<br />
Water clear; 56 degrees; 7.04' low. Black bass are good on jerkbaits, Revenge spinnerbaits, Lucky Craft DD-100's, and Yamamoto Senkos. Striped bass are good on slabs and small crankbaits. White bass are good on slabs and small crankbaits. Catfish are fair on cheesebait, shrimp, and nightcrawlers in 40 - 100 feet. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.

ARROWHEAD<br />
Water lightly stained; 53 degrees; 2.81' low. Black bass are slow on crankbaits off rocky areas. Crappie are good on minnows off the derricks and state park docks, and east side bridge pilings suspended 7-14 feet deep. White bass are slow trolling and jigging with silver slabs near Pawnee Point hump. Blue Catfish are good on juglines and drift fishing using live shad in the lower part of lake.<br />
ATHENS Water lightly stained, 48-56 degrees; 0.27' high. Black bass are fair on shaky head rigs, Rat-L-Traps and crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and cut bait.

BASTROP<br />
Water clear. Black bass are good on red/white spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. Crappie are fair on minnows and green tube jigs over brush piles. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait, liver, shrimp, and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.<br />
BELTON Water clear; 52 degrees; 0.29' high. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows in 20 - 30 feet under lights at night. Channel and blue catfish are good on hot dogs and Spam. Yellow catfish are good on juglines baited with live perch and goldfish.

BOB SANDLIN<br />
Water clear; 46-56 degrees; 0.64' low. Black bass are fair on Texas rigs and Rat-L-Traps. Crappie are fair on live minnows and jigs. White bass are fair on slabs and jigging spoons. Catfish are fair on prepared bait.

BRAUNIG<br />
Water stained; 61 degrees. Black bass are good on crankbaits and dark soft plastic worms in the reeds and near the jetty and dam. Striped bass are good on liver and shad at Dead Tree Point and near the pier, and down rigging silver and gold spoons and marble spinners near the jetty and dam. Redfish are slow. Channel catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, cheesebait, and cut bait near the spillway and the discharge. Blue catfish are good on cut bait in 15 - 20 feet.

BRIDGEPORT<br />
Water lightly stained; 44-58 degrees; 4.36' low. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps, Texas rigs and drop shot rigs. Crappie are fair to good on minnows and jigs around ledges and drop-offs. White bass are fair on slabs. Hybrid striper are fair to good on live shad and slabs. Catfish are fair on prepared bait.

BROWNWOOD<br />
Water stained; 58 degrees; 2.07' low. Black bass are good on chartreuse jigs and watermelon soft plastics in 10 - 30 feet. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on Li'l Fishies and minnows over brush piles in 10 - 30 feet. Channel catfish are very good on stinkbait, minnows, and frozen shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.

BUCHANAN<br />
Water clear; 59 degrees; 1.95' low. Black bass are fair suspending Rattlin' Rogues, Carolina rigged black/blue lizards, 1/8oz. black/chartreuse Curb's hair jigs with smoke/gold flake JDC RocKraw trailers, and blue flake Whacky Sticks on jigheads along ledges in 10 - 20 feet. Striped bass are fair drifting live bait, and trolling white/chartreuse Curb's striper jigs and Rattlin' Rogues in 28 feet. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles in 12 - 15 feet. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

CADDO<br />
Water stained; 48-60 degrees; 0.81' high. Black bass are fair on Texas rigs and jigs. White bass are fair on Road Runners and minnows. Yellow bass are fair on jigs and shrimp. Catfish are fair to good on nightcrawlers and prepared bait.

CALAVERAS<br />
Water stained; 61 degrees. Black bass are good on dark soft plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits around reed beds and near the dam. Striped bass are good on spoons and jigs near the crappie wall and the dam in 15 - 20 feet, and on chicken livers, shad, and minnows along the shoreline. Redfish are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, and cheesebait near the railroad trestle and 181 Cove. Yellow catfish are slow.

CANYON LAKE<br />
Water clear; 60 degrees; 0.05' high. Black bass are fair on Rattlin' Rouges, 1/8oz. pumpkin Curb's hair jigs, and chartreuse Devil's Tongues on secondary points and ledges. Striped bass are fair to good trolling ¼oz. white Curb's striper jigs and vertically jigging Pirk Minnows and Spoiler Shads. White bass are fair jigging Pirk Minnows and ¼oz. Blade Baits along the main river channel at mid lake in 40 feet. Smallmouth bass are very good on JDC smoke/red flake tubes, tomato red curl tail grubs, and tomato red drop shot worms over rock piles in 12 - 25 feet. Crappie are fair on minnows and crappie jigs upriver. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

CEDAR CREEK<br />
Water lightly stained; 46-59 degrees; 1.12' low. Black bass are fair on crankbaits, jigs and Texas rigs. White bass are good on slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on live bait, Sassy Shad and slabs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Catfish are fair on prepared bait and chartreuse nightcrawlers (use Worm-Glo).

CHOKE CANYON<br />
Water lightly stained; 58 degrees; 0.80' low. Black bass are fair on soft plastic worms and lizards, and flipping jigs in the grass. White bass are good on small spinnerbaits and suspending jerkbaits from the 99 Bridge north. Crappie are slow. Drum are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on punchbait in 5 - 10 feet. Yellow catfish are fair on live perch.

COLEMAN<br />
Water clear; 57 degrees. Black bass are good on watermelon red soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits, and on chartreuse Rat-L-Traps. Hybrid striper are good on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows over brush piles. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait, liver, and frozen shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.

COLETO CREEK<br />
Water lightly stained; 63 degrees (71 degrees at discharge); 0.40' low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and red tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are fair on perch, stinkbait, and frozen shrimp in 18 - 25 feet. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch in 18 - 25 feet.

COLORADO CITY<br />
Water clear; 65 degrees; 4.99' low. Black bass are slow. Crappie are slow. White bass are slow. Catfish are slow.

COLORADO RIVER<br />
(At Colorado Bend State Park) Water murky. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows and white jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and small white tube jigs. Catfish are fair on stinkbait and frozen shrimp in deep holes.

CONROE<br />
Water clear. Black bass are good on watermelon red and dark red soft plastics, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are fair on minnows and chartreuse striper jigs. Crappie are good on minnows and blue tube jigs. Catfish are good on stinkbait, live minnows, and frozen shrimp.

COOPER<br />
Water lightly stained; 44-56 degrees; 0.35' low. Black bass are fair on Texas rigs, crankbaits and shaky head rigs. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows. White bass are fair to good on slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on slabs, live shad and Sassy Shad. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and prepared bait.

FAIRFIELD<br />

FALCON<br />
Water stained; 58 degrees. Black bass are good on large watermelon Brush Hogs, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on frozen shrimp and stinkbait upriver. Yellow catfish are slow. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. FAYETTE<br />

FORK<br />
Water fairly clear; 44-56 degrees; 0.2' low. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps, crankbaits, Carolina rigs and heavy jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and stink bait.

FT. PHANTOM HILL<br />
Water clear; 65 degrees; 1.24' low. Black bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair on live baits. Catfish are slow on live baits.

GIBBONS CREEK<br />
Water clear. Black bass are fair on watermelon and chartreuse soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and pink tube jigs. Catfish are good on frozen shrimp, hot dogs, and stinkbait.

GRANBURY<br />
Water clear; 1.18' low. Black bass are good on watermelon and pumpkinseed soft plastics, and on chartreuse Rat-L-Traps. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows and green tube jigs. Catfish are good on frozen shrimp, liver, and stinkbait.

GRANGER<br />
Water murky; 48 degrees; 0.44' high. Black bass are good on jigs along shallow banks upriver. White bass are fair on white grubs upriver near the primitive launch. Crappie are fair on jigs upriver in 2 feet, and in brush piles near Fox Park. Blue catfish are fair on prepared bait and shad. Yellow catfish are slow.

GRAPEVINE<br />
Water fairly clear; 48-59 degrees; 1.7' low. Black bass are slow to fair on crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps and drop shot rigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair to good on slabs. Catfish are fair on stink bait and chartreuse (use Worm-Glo) nightcrawlers.

GREENBELT<br />
Water lightly stained; 44 degrees; 25.73' low. Black bass are fair on jigs and live baits tight to timber, and crankbaits off secondary points. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows. White bass are fair on live baits and jerkbaits along riprap. Smallmouth bass are fair on live baits and crankbaits along riprap. Walleye are fair on slabs tipped with live bait. Catfish are good on prepared and live baits.

HOUSTON COUNTY<br />
Water clear; 57 degrees; 0.57' high. Black bass to 11 pounds are excellent on watermelon red soft plastic lizards near the pump station in 8 feet and at mid lake. Crappie are good on chartreuse tube jigs and live minnows near the dam. White bass are good along the northeast shore. Bream are slow. Channel and blue catfish are slow.

HUBBARD CREEK<br />
Water lightly stained; 62 degrees; 2.71' low. Black bass are fair on minnows and watermelon/chartreuse jigs suspended in timber. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows. White bass and hybrid striper are fair on live baits. Catfish are fair on cut shad and live baits.

JOE POOL<br />
Water off color; 44-57 degrees; 1.13' low. Black bass are fair on drop shot rigged finesse worms, crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair to good on minnows and slabs. Catfish are fair on cheese bait and nightcrawlers.

LAKE O' THE PINES<br />

LAVON<br />

LBJ<br />
Water stained; 60 degrees; 5.08' low. The lake has been drawn down five feet to allow homeowners to clean up damage and debris from the flood of July 2007. It will be refilled beginning 25 Feb. Most boat ramps are unusable, and the channel is dangerous.

LEWISVILLE<br />
Water off color; 45-58 degrees; 0.92' low. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps, medium diving crankbaits and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair to good on slabs. LIVINGSTON<br />

Channel catfish are fair drift fishing with punch bait and on trotlines baited with shad. Boat launching is difficult due to low water conditions.

WRIGHT PATMAN<br />
