Slabs at the View
#1
Wiperslayer and I got to the PV about 8:30am and headed back to Spring creek for some crappie action. As you can imagine this cold front that just went threw had moved them out of the shallows and into deeper water. We started trolling for muskie but keep marking suspended fish, so after a while we decided to stop and see if they were crappie. A few minutes later we had the first slab in the boat and I'll have to say they were the largest I have caught at PV in over 15 years. As we made out way back to the dock around 4pm we saw P4L and LH2 throwing some lures, good to see you guys, and just as we were loading the boat Packfan came screaming up in his big old Crestliner, nice boat Pete[Wink]. I can't say it was hot and furious but at least we caught a few of those big old PV slabs. One side note for those of you going up to the View tomorrow, the free lunch is over, they start charging to launch tomorrow, $10[frown]. WH2

Nice job guys. We though that was you motoring by. Those crappies are very nice this year. There are alot of them too. I turned all mine loose for someone else to catch. Took me 2 hours last time to fillet them all.[crazy]

They told me last weekend they weren't going to start charging till the 9th. What a bunch of BS! [mad][mad]

When we got there in the morning, the guys that were working on the docks, told us the same thing but as we were leaving they came back and said the big boss had decided to start earlier. So tomorrow is pay day for them[unimpressed].

Those are some very big and nice Crappies. In what general underwater structure were they in, and do you know if they were schooling in mass or smaller groups?

You have most definitely inspired me to find an opportunity and fish PV now. That size a Crappie is more than worth it.

If I understand you both, it will cost $10 for each launch?[frown]

Thanks very much.

The noticed the fish were hanging at the edge of a drop off, the bottom went from 18ft to 26 ft fairly quick. We did see them is groups on the finder but I would say they were smaller groups. After we worked the first group over they seemed to move on, so we did also. We looked for a similar depth at another drop off and found some more fish and got a few more. We just wondered if we could have done better if we had started in the deeper water earlier[:/]. Yea, $10 is the price starting on Saturday morning. WH2

Do you happen to know how much the full year pass is at Pineview? Where else is it good for?
I know it is a Federal place, but is it good for all Fed rec areas like Powell or just Pineview?

As we were getting the boat ready to leave, three of the folks that are running the Port ramp this year came out to us and tried to talk us into buying their season pass. I guess it all depends on how much you fish PV but at $110 for a season pass I feel it is very over priced. While you can buy a State season pass for $70(with the $5 off coupon in the fishing guide), and that gets you into dozens of parks, the PV pass is only good at one place[frown].
