Fathersday Morning a great time at the Bay
#1
Luke72 and I hit Willard yesterday morning bright and early, we met up at Home Depot on 2100s at 0430 loaded up the goods and headed to Willard. We both had to be back by noon as we had a family get to gather to attend so us new it would be a short day. Got to the bay at about 6 after grabbing breakfast at flying J, got on the water shortly after as we left the N Marina I notice that there was a fairly nice little breeze kicking things up from the SW, Not good buy hey I have a motor and don't have to kick so no worries. I dropped silver and blue Rapala and Luke started trolling various gear. Well in short nothing for the first couple of hours. So we headed for the NE corner were I have been educated to try and get a few cats. Dropped the electric so we could just be in a controlled drift and started dragging bait. After about 20 minutes I get a hit. As I start reeling it in id did not feel like a cat, it turned out to be a feisty little Small mouth, well at least the skunk is off. As we continued on down the drift I started throwing the Rapala again, all of a sudden I got hit like I had never been hit before. The drag started screaming and game on I get this nice fat 20+ in wiper (my first ever) to the boat, he sees the boat and there he goes. I let him run get him turned and back to the boat. As Luke goes to net he decides it aunt happening and starts to run dawn the boat, where he happens to get the line into the boat and snap. There goes my first Wiper a 6.00 bucks worth of hardware. Oh well it was fun. Back to not being able to rustle up any cats again. By now we only have about 45 minutes left to fish before we have to head in. I am just glassing the lake and I notice everyone is running near the dikes so we head north part way up the dike and start with some new hardware. I drop a Chrome and blue Frenzy (rattletrap look a like) and Luke puts in a Chrome red and black frenzy and a way we go. After about 10 minutes Luke’s rod goes off, and than a few minutes mine goes off. Woo Hoo we both have fish and they are nice sized Wipers in the 15-18" range. In the basket they go. A few minutes later I see a couple of arches and say look there are 2 more and than my rod goes off and about 10 sec later Luke’s does also a double you gota love it. We boat these two and now head for the ramp and cleaning station. All in all it was a great day. I know understand the desire to chase the Wipers as those little guys sure pull. I am looking forward to dinner tonight, and many many more trips a hunting them. I will get the pic posted when I get home.

Yea I am a ruined, but I was ruined for the slime rockets after my first LMB. My lesson from this last trip was a Med light rod and 6lb test make for a very interesting battle with a 20+ Wiper. I found they were a little easier to handle on the med bait caster set up, but alas they were not quiet as big either. Ohh yea they taste a lot better too.
