LONG ISLAND,NY OFFSHORE REPORT 8/18/08
#1
[Wink]
I did an away trip aboard kevin bashims 45' sweet Viking "Barbra ANN". we did a sun into mon overnighter to to the tails. we headed out sun morning at 1130 am. We had the trolling rods out at 2:30pm. we trolled from the flats to the deep in clear bluewater with the temp's around 76. we trolled till sunset and only had 1 skipjack to show for it. we set up in 600' for a shark drift over nite. we put out the fresh skip jack fillets and within 30 mins the 60' bait starts screaming. We set the hook and there was no stopping this runaway freight train! this lasted for over 2 minutes then the hook pulled! bummer! we rebait and set up and nothing for 2-3 hours. then the short 30' bait gets hit. kevin sets the hook and the game is on! he nailed a nice 127' Mako. he decideded to take her. then we switch over to tuna chunking it's only 2:30 am. no luck on nite chunk. at dawn we start trolling the deep. no action until 10 am. when a rod goes screaming! fish on! kevin fought this fish in nicely. he brought in a nice 78LB. Wahoo. we just barely got him in when we saw the leader frayed from his teeth! Nice fish! Then we continue trolling and a white marlin hits a rigged ballyhoo bait missing it several times finally she comes tight and the fight was on! She made some nice leaps and tailwalking displays for a great show! we quickly took pics and sent her on her way. she was about 60 lbs. no other action. other boats had some bigeye on the troll but it was generally slow out there.
p.s. WE HAVE OPENINGS THIS MONTH AND NEXT IF YOU WANT TO GET IN ON THIS ACTION!
Tight Lines!
Capt.Dennis
