"New" Old Fins
#1
So since the beginning oh so many years ago I've only ever owned one set of fins.

Caddis lace up universal over-boot jobbers. They float and they're adjustable and work well, though they've never been uber-comfy. They did the job but they pinched a bit when tight, and they always kinda felt on the verge of slipping off.

Well, I borrowed a set of fins from a friend who used them for scuba and I love 'em.

They fit over my 9-1/2 feet in neoprene with size 11 water shoes over those VERY comfortably.

Anyway, I went on a mission to find a set and found that they've been discontinued for a while but were good fins in their day.

Well, I just won these:

Same exact ones. Hopefully they're in good shape, can't beat the price! Smile

Mares Power Plana fins. I've heard many a tuber here praise their Mares so I'll add my endorsement. Don't know if/how the newer versions are better, but now I'm a convert.

I now have a set of neoprene waders, felt soled boots, Caddis fins, and a Buck's Bag donut for anyone who wants to tag along next time! I'll stick to my Fish Cat 4 dx, breathables, aquasox, and Mares. Smile

Right on! Is 9 1/2 considered LARGE?
Bout the only thing I have heard negative, is the strap breaks...can you replace them?

Don't know about the strap being replaceable.

I know that the "large" ones fit over neoprene over water shoes.

I'll let you know how the straps look when I get 'em.

Too funny, SHigSpeed-

I just won these on Sunday: Mares Plana Avanti Scuba Fins Regular (10-11) black in color with buckle upgrades.

First, I went to a retail store and tried on a pair. It's hard to know what is the correct size for you without trying them on.

I'm real impressed with Mares fins from all I've read. They fit over my huge neoprene boots perfectly. Unfortunately, I had to buy a pair of men's waders with stocking feet bigger than a penguin on steroids. Hence, the huge boots to acommodate the huge stocking feet. [Smile]

so let me get this straight.. you had winning bid of 99 cents on a set of fins.. and paying 10.00 for shipping.. so you got a set of used fins that quite a few here swear by for less than 11.00

now that is a bargain.. [laugh]

Yup! This is a good deal that I DIDN'T pass along... Wink

I'm sitting on another one, but if I pass it up, I'll share - but only then!

[cool][#0000ff]We have two sets of Mares fins that we bought in 1985. We used them extensively both for diving and for tubing...fresh water and salt water...until we "upgraded" to newer models in 2003. We still have the old ones and they still get used by family or friends that tube with us.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We have never had a broken strap and they still look good. No degradation of the material, etc. Only problem we ever had with either pair was having to replace a support pin in one of the strap assemblies...because I ran over it with the car.[/#0000ff]

Just took a look at my "new" fins I got in the mail today.

These Creek Co. straps will definitely work. The rubber on these are a bit cracked so I'll probably be picking up a set soon.
