Lake Mead Tues 9/8

Hit the water with my kayak buddy Alex at about 6am. Morning started off overcast, and dead calm. Glass water, no wind, nice and cool. It was a beautiful morning.

We headed out of Callville to do some bass fishing. The early morning was just dead. We threw everything we could think of, but the bass just weren't having it. By about 9:30 the sun was stepping out from behind what was left of the clouds, and it got hot and sunny.

That's when we started catching fish.

My first bass of the day on the drop shot

A nice little 1 1/2 lb striper on the spinnerbait I was throwin for bass

Another small striper boat-side

Got a pic of Alex with one of his bass

We had a slow start this morning, but all in all, a great day on the water. Small schools of striper are crusing around chasing basketball sized schools of shad well into the afternoon. We landed a total of 7 stripers and 5 largemouth between the two of us. Nothing big, but they all fought hard.
Tight lines- Good luck out there!

Great post! Looks like fun. I never get to Callville, anything resembling a striper boil up there?

Another awesome report, nice pictures. Question, how do the larger boats out there treat you guys? Do they give you plenty of room? Or do they run by you wide open? When I used to tube the wash they gave me plenty of room, but they were mostly fisherman, at the marnia??? My thought being could take my 10 foot jon out of calville and not expect to be swamped by some jerk. Of course keeping close to shore, one eye on the weather and all that common sense stuff. In alot ways my jon is just a slighty wider yak [Wink]

No real boils up there, just a few select fish busting shad on the surface. You would see one or two fish attacking just a few shad, and it would last about 15 seconds before they were gone. You could catch them if you cast fast enough.

We dont have too many problems on the kayaks. They mostly give us the space. A couple months ago, however, Alex went out solo and had a boat full of assholes do a couple tight doughnuts around him while laughing and yelling. There are some s#!tty people out there.

Sounds like it's time for Alex to load up on heavy jigs and fire one into the side of the pretty little fiberglass boat...

Oops sorrrry.

Yeah, Whizzle...I've never seen a boil out of Callville. Fishing there was okay. A lot of carp there though. My buddy landed a huge carp off of a cut anchovie. That's pretty crazy...probably just an accident.

Sorry to hear about your buddy. The striper carcasses make for a nice deterrent. Several years ago, we were on a houseboat trip and had a couple jet skis with us. As we were cruising on the lake, some of us started filleting the catch from the previous night. 2 of our buddies were on jet skis and thought it would be hilarious to splash us while were in the back of the houseboat. I resorted to putting on one of their sleeping bags as a full cover. Hence, if they drenched me, they would be drenching their own sleeping bag. It wasn't much of a deterrent. My other friend, however, decided to fling the stiper carcasses at the guys on the jet skis. Unfortunately, my friend didn't realize that the stripers have nice little spikes on their backs. The guy on the jet ski wasn't too happy when he got stuck with one in his thigh....but it did stop him from splashing us. Just a thought.

Best regards,

Paul
