Chum- Chum can be either live, cut, or chunk bait. Outside of shark fishing, chum used by Southern California sportfishing boats include anchovies, sardines, and occasionally squid as well as chunks of fish for the tuna. Fish are either brought to the surface by chum or follow a chum line up to the boat.
