help identifying a fish

I was in San Diego Bay (back bay to be specific) and a friend caught this fish.. I cant remember what he told me it was.. it does not look like the spotted bay bass we were catching..

I would think the boys on the Cali board could help with that macfly55. If it was caught in the NE, I might have a shot.

I bet that fish started to bleed for no reason. haha

That is a Pacific Mackerel. Those will generally school up and can be caught anywhere from 2 feet below the surface up to 100 feet at times when they are active.

I usually save quite a few of those for Crabbing and Lobster season. They also make good bait for Ling Cod, Whitefish and can be chunked to use for Shark bait at night.[cool]
