Sled waxes ?

Can anyone tell me what sled waxes are out there ??

Plain parafin, applied in August so it is nice and soft and the sled is nice and warm.

If your in a hurry, plain parafin, applied in the house to a warm sled. A blowdryer will assist, but be careful, most get hot enough to damage your sled.

I use parafin and a hot summer day is the easiest way to wax a sled; however, I have also done it in the winter. I went shopping at Deseret Industries and bought one of their used irons. I melted some wax in a tin can on the stove in a pan filled with water (be careful doing this because parafin will catch fire if heated too hot). I then used an old paint brush and brushed the wax onto the sled. I then ironed over the wax with the iron and melted the wax so that it was smooth. It worked well, but it certainly is a lot easier to wax them using the heat of the sun.

Melt the wax in a double boiler so it won't get to hot.

If you put the sled in the shower and spray hot water on the inside for a few minutes, it helps to apply to apply the wax to the outside. Most water is about 105 from the heater.

I used different language but I believe we are saying the same thing. I use a can because I don't want to have to try to clean parafin out of a pan. Great idea on warming the sled -- although one's spouse may give a strange look.

Really, she is used to the fishing addiction at this point in our relationship.
She knows she needn't worry that if I have a spare $20 that I will use it to "wallow in the quagmire of sin", she knows I will buy a lure, pack of hooks, something smelly and some gas to go fishing.
