A couple friends and I made it into Chesterfield yesterday. The roads were pretty touch and go with the county snowplow tipped over in the bar ditch about half way between Bancroft and Chesterfield. We were pushing powder with the bumper of a half ton pickup.

The snow on the reservoir was about two feet deep and 3" of nice clear ice. We didn't get on the ice until 9:30 or so. The bite was fast and furious right from the getgo. It lasted until about 11:00 when the bite turned off. We stayed another 3 hours with only two more fish to show for it. The wind was blowing around 15mph so we decided we better hit the road. When we headed down the hill from the dam we could see that Nipper Rd. had been plowed and were able to take it all the way to the Highway and no white out like it was on the way in.

Big fat fish that really liked to fight.

I tried to make it out to fish Chesterfield today, but didn't make it because the access road was drifted over and impassable. Normally I would have hiked in but I was with my girlfriend and dad with recent knee replacements. We got there at 8:00 and there were other roads that were a higher priority, but does anyone know who or when the Chesterfield access gets plowed?

After helping two different groups of people get their vehicles out of the ditch, we made it to Alexander for some perch fishing. We did OK, a lot of small perch and a few nice ones, biggest being about 11 inches. Not a bad back-up, but frustrated that we didn't get to fish at Chesterfield.

So if you're planning on fishing Chesterfield in the next several days I would be prepared to hike/snowmachine in or hope that someone gets it plowed out. Hope everyone is enjoying the early ice fishing season.
