Ice Fishing Devil Creek Reservoir
#1
Fished the ice today. Us and 1 other group is all I saw. I would say a solid 2 inches of the clear stuff underneath 2 inches of the white crusted ice. Overall about 4 inches. Fished near the dam, 1st foot out the ice is thin and we broke through, little scary but I was standing on the bank holding a rope while my friend was pushing himself out on a tube checking the thickness. We heard someone had taken a spill recently so we wanted to play it safe. Overall we caught 12 in about 4 hours. Biggest was 14-15 inches. Sorry no pictures. Also learned, well I already knew, you shouldn't drive your truck down a snow covered road that leads to a reservoir. Turned into a 20 minute delay trying to get out. Thank ceedubya for that. All I have is a picture of the road taken from my phone. What was he thinking?[:/]

Thanks for the report. I am thinking about trying several places in the next few days and that may be one of them on the list. I have taken a wrong turn on that road in the past.

I haven't shot a deer in 3 yrs. So give me a break. I'm a little out of pullin shape! Just wanted to get my truck a little closer to the ice. And after a shot of adrenaline it was much easier to drag my sled up the hill.[:p]

I heard today that several locals from Malad were checking the ice by the boat launch and one went through. He was having a hard time getting out and his brother who is on an oxygen tank couldn't offer much help. A Good Samaritan who happened to be looking at the lake as he drove on the freeway saw they needed help and came to the rescue with an extension cord and helped get him out. I remomber as a kid going through the ice on my Dad's pond up to my waist and the shock I felt. Luckily it wasn't deep and I was able to crawl out. Just a reminder to be careful. Acey
