Hey,
Is there any ice on Carey Lake yet? We fish it often in the warm months before and after the moss, with a 10' rowboat and motor. Our best luck has been in October, filled a fish basket with medium perch and bluegill. The 6 yo caught an 11 3/4" bass that we couldn't stretch to keeper no matter how hard we tried. Lots of smaller ones.
From the parking area, walk down the trail to the south for a few hundred yards until you hit water, that is the hot spring entrance. An old guy told me the bluegills hang there all winter. It is a great spot for kids, every cast with a bobber catches a bluegill or perch. The water is only a few feet deep there.
I saw 4 or 5 ice shacks on Mackay early this morning on my way by. Trouble is, none of us are big fans of kokanee.
We're either headed to Carey or Magic soon to get some perch. I got a new hand ice auger from Harbor Freight and tested it on a bucket of ice. It made a hole, what more can you ask?
