Stanley Lake?
#1
Has anyone ever been ice fishing at stanley lake? I was thinking about making a trip up there. I heard there were some nice lake trout in there, would love to catch one through the ice. Thanks, Jake.

I checked on that a couple of years ago, even called IDFG and they said not many do cause of how deep the snow gets on the lake. So I guess if you go take a shovel and maybe check with the IDFG and see what they say.

Michael is right; the snow would be overwhelming. Also, I don't think they plow the road in. By the way, the lakers are pretty well congregated in a small area. If you aren't familiar with the bottom contour, it would be difficult connecting with any macs. Mike

What a bummer. I forgot how much snow would be up there.

I guess I will wait till spring to try it out. There is a boat ramp at the lake right? I have heard that there is but the IDFG website says it is just a trail to the lake with no ramp or dock. Which one is right? Thanks for the help guys, Jake.

There is a natural sand boat ramp. I recently heard of talk about improving the facilities, but am not sure of the details. There is a dock, but it is off a bit to one side. It is used more as a fishing dock, but you might be able to pull your boat over there to use it for accessing your boat. You can usually access the lake by Memorial Day, and that is when the macs are usually caught. There is a limited number of fish in this relatively small lake, so I hope you consider catch and release. Take a camera! The lake is planted rather heavily with trout, and there are kokanee. They taste much better than lake trout anyway. Mike

Thanks alot Mike. I want to go up and try to catch a few lake trout next year. I always catch and release, I don' t eat fish. Sometimes I will keep a few to give to some older folks I know that eat them but I don't like the taste of fish. Do you fish Stanley Lake very much? If so maybe I will run into you up there next summer. Thanks for the help, Jake.

Jake,
I have fished it a couple of times, but it is Payette Lake that I have fished religiously for macs since the early 60's. I would have to say it is the better fishery for macs of the two. PM me this spring, and I will be more than happy to share some thoughts with you on either body of water. Mike
