Wow, that's quite early. I made it to Crawdad about 6:10 a.m this morning but didn't get on the water till about 6:45. I was attaching some experimental prop ducts on my trolling motors, you may have seen me there.

Overall it seemed like a real slow day. But that wasn't for a lack of people trying. I stayed and trolled castaics, AC Minnows, Storm Kick'n minows, and some one-off trout swimbait lures till noon and during that time I saw one boat pull in a double hookup around the outhouse. They looked smallish so I suspect they ran by a school of 'em.

Do you find that the fish usually start biting well before sunup? If that's the case then is night fishing (10pm - 2am) productive this time of year for cows?

Thanks for the report.

Hello Demolitron I think I saw you did you have a small green boat I saw someone in a small boat trolling in front of me ? Well I know the few times I have gone there I have had bites when it gets dark or just before light but for the cows I cant asnwer that I haven't caught a real big one yet lol.I was on the point by myself with a chair there I was casting alot moving around maybe you seen me .I think I might start bringing my kayak there and troll around a little bit .

Yeah dude! I haven't shore fished since I got my kayak. You gotta get out and join the ranks of yak fisherman! Ya know, Ive seen a lot more people out in kayaks this winter than I did over the summer. Doesn't make sense to me, but its cool seeing people out in the kayaks. Its the ultimate way to fish.

I'm thinking about starting up a club for yak fisherman- Have monthly get-togethers, and little mini tournaments. Some friendly competition and a bit of cash on the line. It could be a lot of fun!
Would anyone be interested in something like that?

That would be a cool idea whizzle for a club and tournaments would it be striper or largemouth tournaments I use to fish in some A.B.A. and club tournaments(Southern Nevada Bassmasters ) for largemouth it was alot of fun. Since kayaks dont have livewells you could use the system we did during spawn season at lake mohave we did some measurement of the fish and wrote it down then released the fish that year they didnt want to bring any back to weigh them in . The few times I fished in my kayak I had trouble a little like when I threw worms my kayak wanted to spin and not stay on point for me but I just need to get use to that .

The fish are not predictable. I have found the night to be great fishing at times. I do know that dawn and dusk are good times. But during the day if there is no wind and the lake is like glass the fish will be less active due to the fish having to look up. The sun hurts there eyes. A small ripple on the water is best.

But just like humans we are not always hungry at the same time of the day. I have been out there trolling and I put my line in and every 5 feet hook up. And Been on the water for 12 to 20 hrs with out a strike of any kind.

That is why the call it fishing not catching.[Smile]
