Perch Jerker City at Yuba 1-11-09
#1
[cool][#0000ff]TubeBabe and I made it to Oasis ramp by about 7 AM. Pikeman and Jay showed up minutes later. We were all drillin' and chillin' by the time the cold sun turned the clouds pink in the east. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]No action for TubeBabe and I straight out off the ramp, so I told her to stay put and I would do some swiss cheesin' to try to find a good area. Of course, as soon as I moved toward the dam a ways the fish moved in for Pikeman and Jay. They limited in an hour or so...and TubeBabe got three before the building perch jerker city put the fish down. After that it was just the occasional light biter. TubeBabe finished with 4...catching her last one about noon when I returned with the camera. Her biggest was a phat 11 incher.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]In the meantime I poked a lot of holes in the ice and checked a lot of spots for fish. Saw a lot more on sonar than I put in my fish bag. Finally got a few to hit on one of my pale perch colored blade baits. Got one single, then two from a small school and a fourth and last one about 11. My biggest was a parky 12 incher. No bites anywhere after that...even though we fished until after 1.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Saw Bassrods and his contingent arrive and set up down toward the dam. Part of them moved on to the cliffs across from the ramp, along with several other groups. Don't know how they did, but most folks on the lake were moving around a lot and staying a long time. Only saw onsies and twosies on the ice. Did not seem to be a stellar day for most.[/#0000ff]

we were down to yuba on sat. and walked away from the crowds, and found lots of nice perch. Walk towards the far bank and it's great. Beautiful morning picture.

[cool][#0000ff]Good advice. I have fished Yuba for over 30 years and know it pretty well. The area along the bluffs and the rock piles is one of my favorites, both for soft water and ice fishing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Saw a lot of other folks going over there today. Doubt it would have been much less crowded than the ramp side.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I was more interested in finding some of the underwater breaklines I know about on this side. I work them from a float tube but the water has come up about 10 to 12 feet since I tubed it last. I had to drill a lot of holes to finally find the inside corner on the dropoff that I was looking for. Too much noise and commotion, even if I was by myself. Got a few fish, but probably would have done better to just stay put earlier.[/#0000ff]

i opted to go to Painted Rocks and look for the elusive pikers.... well i succeeded in logging another day full of things not to do when attempting to catch pike [Wink] Oddly enough... I found the perch in as little as 6ft and no more than 15ft of water, they all bit on pike setups (or what i would call a pike setup) ... 3" tube being the smallest.... i caught numero ten at 4 and that ended my party....

I think my next step will be to just let that perch swim until something bigger comes along to gobble him up..can that be counted as live bait? [Wink] .... all right, prolly not a good idea.... very nice pics.

Hey TD, has anyone made the jaunt over to Walleye Point yet this year ?? It's a long walk, but sometimes can be productive !!

Boy that full moon must have shut em down a bit! That or the crowd in your area stirred the bottom up to much with all those power augers.
Maybe next time the train leaves the station/PR you should jump onboard. Man we had the lake to ourselves for mile or two in both direction, [Wink][Wink]

Oh and I'm glad to got a few to munch on!!
