read somewhere that if nothing is biting try something different, such as using freshwater jig/spinnerbaits, etc and see what happens.
question, has anyone ever tried this and what, if any, were the results?

Hello Nicmic,
Welcome to bft. I have tried this out of boredom before and actually hooked up. Depending on what your fishing for sometimes it is almost for sure. I have been on a kelp patti were Dorado were boiling and pretty much you could throw an anchor over board and they will go after it.
If fishing is slow I would say it definetly can't hurt.

Some times I'll down size my baits for stripers. Go from a 10" sluggo to a 3-4" white fluke or a spoon. If one things not working, you have nothing to lose.

It is always good to change your bait, tactic, lure or even presentation.
Some fish rely on currents to bring in their favorite meal. Others rely on chance, luck or some dumb bait fish to be in the right place at the wrong time.
I have learned some of my better tricks just by fishing with marine biologists on board. Sometimes you can learn more from a person that can think like a fish as opposed to someone who likes to fish. haha
Many times, while fishing jigs, spoons or other baits, a simple color change or the way you present the same color can trigger the desired reaction from the finicky fish that is lurking out of your sight.[cool]
