kbsfisherman, Small Lake, Crappie, 2/15-16/09, Kayak Fishing solo
#1
After a couple training missions in my new stealthy(it's like being ONE with the water) Hobie OUTBACK Kayak, I could focus more on fishin'. It was cold and windy,(temp 50 & wind gust up to 20mph) which makes it hard to fish some times. I was at my "Honey Hole" which the previous day had yeilded only one nice crappie. I used my minner bucket as a drift sock to slow my speed & used the mirage drive to postion the boat. Drifting a Tube jig tipped with minner, I was only a few feet from the put in when.. WHAM! FISH ON! & it was a nice one. Line screamed of my ultra light, my heart raced as the fish headed for some shallow brush & tall grass. I had to peddle(not paddle) petty quick to catch up. I thought to myself" WWOOOO, WHAT the ?? is it?? CAT, CARP,BASS? It headed straight into the tall grass, the water level is high from all the rain we've recieved. Holding the vibrating rod high, my kayak ran aground, & the fish NEVER let up! I was temped to go after it on foot! my line finally snapped with most of it, GONE! It was WICKED! I had to regain my composer, to start fishin' again. I ended up with a few keepers for supper and one helluva fish(most likely Carp or Gar) to go back after! If anyone has a kayak and would like to fish with me, give me a PM. It is a TOTALLY different experiance.Tight Lines & FISH ON!
