Decided to head down to the river park and see what was going on today. Water flow was pretty slow, even though they were supposed to be at 32,000 cfs. I didn't bother with pics, because honestly we didn't catch anything that everyone hasn't seen before. Water temps were 47 degrees, with light winds. We fished around piers and rocks, looking for smallies, but only ended up with one, that would not measure. I DID however become the drum magnet today, landing 6 of them. I also managed 3 chunky spots and 5 fat bream. Mike caught 3 bream and a nice blue cat. At the very beginning of our trip I hooked something that would not move from the bottom. It would surge up stream for short bursts and then simply lay on the bottom and not move. It ran upriver the entire time, and I chased it for a good 200 yards with the trolling motor. I fought it for a good 15 minutes before it finally broke my 4 lb test line. No slime on the line, and it didn't fight like a cat. Have no idea what it was unless it was a huge, huge drum. I would have liked to have seen it but never got it over a few feet off the bottom. I'd say that next week, if the temps keep heading up, that things will turn on down there. Great day to be on the water.
