Kaiser and I went to the lake today in search of something to stretch the line. We don't normally fish the lake this early (I have a hard time finding consistent fish in low water ), but we decided to head here instead of the riverpark this time. JDK ... I'm with you on the smallmouth bite in the river... this is a good time to get after them emoSmile We had a pretty good day catching a few, but never did find a pattern emoScratch . We started the day off in a long cove, fishing secondary points and clay banks, sitting in 10 ft of water, throwing traps without any luck... move to a shallow flat with stumps... traps didn't work there either... but spinner bait did emoSmile ... but not consistent. We moved out to the mouth of the cove and picked up a couple with traps. Cruised to another cove with same type of structure.. nothing.... took a break from bass and went to a cove we've fished before for crappie... only found 1 that would measure (they haven't moved into this spot yet.. still a little early), some bream, yellows and whites. Ran to some open water spots, 3-4 ft, rocky, close to deep water and close to sheltered flats and did ok with traps. Took pics of the LM's we caught and keeper crappie. Was a good day on the water... good quality time with my son emoTongue But, wow... when the north wind came... it whipped the water up pretty good and dropped the temp really fast. Water temps on channel were around 57... saw some 60-61 water in coves ... bigger fish came from 3 ft or less. Tried swimbaits, traps, spinnerbaits, jigs... only success was on SB and Traps
