Since today is Hal's off day this week, we decided that the weather wasn't too bad, so we went crappie fishing. Not too many folks out today for a Friday. We hit about 4 different areas of the lake today and caught fish in every area. Doesn't surprise me since the dogwoods are just now beginning to bloom. We ended up with 29 keepers for Hal's freezer. We threw back at least 2 fish for every keeper that we kept. Not all throwback crappie, cause we threw back all the females that hadn't spawned yet and some of them were nice keeper size. Some of the females have already dropped their eggs. But most are still showing. emoBig

I caught a nice smallmouth bass in one cove. We landed about 1/2 dozen bluegills, 3 drum, 1 spotted bass and 1 yellow perch. Because of the rain, we didn't take any pics on the lake except for the smallmouth. It was too pretty just to admire and throwback with taking a picture. After we got home, I snapped a couple of pics for the forum to make Doc happy. emoBig

BG shads and panfish assassins were our main baits today. I never did try ringer stingers, but did catch the one spotted bass on a crappie stinger 1.5". Colors didn't seem to matter today. We caught them on just about every color that we threw. We fished shallow brush, docks, stumps, shorelines and any area that we thought that the crappie might be spawning. We talked to one guy at the ramp and he and his partner only caught 6 or 7 crappie. I didn't want to tell him how many we caught. It would make him feel bad.

Depending on the weather and our better halves, we might fish again tomorrow afternoon. I need to do something nice for Wanda. emoBig
