ANGLER SURVEY AT SHAKAMAK STATE PARK STARTS APRIL 1
#1
The Indiana DNR will conduct an angler creel survey at Kickapoo Lake in conjunction with a general survey of all three of the Shakamak State Park lakes. The creel survey will begin April 1, and run through October.

The survey interviews are part of an ongoing project to evaluate the 12- to 15-inch slot size limit on largemouth bass. The slot limit has been in effect at Shakamak State Park since 1986.

A creel clerk at the Kickapoo ramp will conduct interviews at the end of anglers' fishing trips. The clerk also may contact boat and shoreline anglers around the lake via boat.

Anglers will be asked questions about what they were fishing for, how many and what size fish were caught, and satisfaction with the slot size limit. This information will be used to determine angler preferences and total fish harvest at Kickapoo Lake.

Creel interviews typically take about three minutes. Participation in the survey is voluntary; however, anglers are encouraged to participate. The information gathered will be used to help improve fish management-and, ideally, fishing-at the lake.
