1st Day of the Dixie Duel, I drew T.O. We got put in about an hour before blast off, and he pulled straight over to Rick Clunn to shoot the breeze until blastoff. I've heard some bad reports on Mr. Clunn, but he was very nice and talkative while we were there. We had blastoff #65. We made a short run to his first spot, he said when we stopped it was his "keeper" spot. After a few minutes with the CR he pulled out the trap, and almost immediately had a fish on. Got it in the boat about a pound, but it was bleeding a little, so he went ahead and released it, so he didn't have to worry about it dieing in his livewell. Not 10 casts later he hooked into a toad. After a few tense moments he got her in the boat, a beautiful 6.9 He didn't get another hit there so we made the long run down lake to Spring Creek. Talked to Aaron Martens as we went under the bridge. He said he didn't have anything. We went to TO's 1st spot in there, nothing. Left and went to 2nd spot, he lost a 3 lber on a beaver. 3rd spot, he connects on a 3lber on a swimbait, and that's it. Then to the 4th spot. He caught a 3lber and 2 llbers to finish out his limit. We spent the rest of the day in Spring Creek, he only caught 10-11 fish all day, but they were all solid fish. We tried to get to the pond in the back, but didn't make it. We had a lot of fun trying to get back out of there, especially being as I wasn't allowed to help at all. T.O. on the push pole was hilarious. He ended up with 17.8 in 2nd place after day one. I've drawn Denny Brauer for tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.
