New to fishing in NC

Here it is, I flat out need som help/guidance on what to use bait and tackle wise for bass fishing here. I have recently returned from 10 months in Iraq. I am stationed at Ft. Bragg. I have been to a few lakes around post like white lake, mott lake, this last weekend lake waccamaw. I cant catch a fish to save my life, while people around me are making it look easy. So if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
