Fishinfool (Terry) and fishinfire (Mike) invited me to go shellcracker hunting with them today. We put in at Skull Island and pretty soon, the light and variable winds were whitecapping the river. Needless to say, it was difficult to do what we set out to do. Water temp started out at 64 and finished up around 66 degrees. Still a little too cool for the shellies to move up real shallow.

We only caught 2 shellcrackers and they were smalls ones at that. We ended up fishing docks for crappie. We must have caught around 15 or so and all fish were released. Several bluegills were caught, and they were all small. Mike snagged a very big drum and wrestled that around for about 3 or 4 minutes before the hook pulled out of the dorsal fin that it was stuck in.

We saw Cathooker and better half at the ramp and just before we left, ole EricM came along to fish for his pets. I really don't know where he parked his trailer as the parking lot was completely full of trailers. We released all fish and quit fishing around 2:30.

Thanks for letting me tag along today guys. We will do better next time. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
