Anybody use waist waders in a tube? I'm sure they must be fine in a 'toon, but with the new higher-riding tubes they seem like they might be nice. I think I can pull it off in my ODC 420. I have used chest waders for as long as I have been tubing, but with warm weather coming I thought waist waders might be a nice alternative.

[cool][#0000ff]After I got used to fishing from the higher seating position in my SFC, I also began to contemplate getting rid of the straps of chest waders and going to the "waist" waders. Good concept, but in all the models I have tried, they are not cut well for sitting. Okay for wading a stream, but when you sit down in them they pull down in the back. That leaves you open for shipping some water if you get a wave or lean back too far. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]For both warmth and dryness, I prefer to have something coming up to my waist in the back. So, I took a pair of lightweights and cut off the shoulder straps. Then, after pulling them on, I just rolled them down to waist level. I secured them with a web belt with a quick release buckle. Done deal. There are some trips I do not even bother with the belt...as visible in the one attached pic.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You will also save money by cutting down chest waders. The waist high seem to be more costly.[/#0000ff]

Thanks. One of the reasons I asked, was that I was worried about the back pulling down when in a sitting position.

I wear them. Even with my chest waders, I folded them down to make waist high. Now I have a pair of Rivendell waist highs and LOVE them.
On my H3 and my Navigator, I do have to wear waders and the waist high are a bonus. But if there isn't a big difference in price between a waist high and a chest, I would definitely go with the chest.
Like I said, MOST chest highs can be folded down to make waist, plus chest are nicer on rainy or cooler days.
