Smith and Morehouse Res
#1
Made it all the way up to smith and morrehouse res. It was beautiful. Most snow has melted off except the road which is still deep in some spots. Got a few small cuts out of the river and maybe12 bows out of the lake. Nothing very big. The river was crystal clear the res was still 75% ice.

I have never fished Smith Morehouse but would like to this year. Will you please inform us of what the camping and fishing is like there?
Thanks.

We took a 4x4 jeep which was necesary to get to the top. None of the campgrounds were open yet, so we just camped next to the reservoir. Perfectly clear night... the moon was so bright night fishing would have been fun. Instead we did a bunch of night drinking. Got a little cold... nothing too bad. Fish were biting everything...powerbait, worms, and castmasters, but only at the far side of the reservoir. We tried to take the road past the reservoir, but got stuck a bunch of times.

I really like Smith and Moorehouse. There are two campgrounds, one above and one below the resevoir. Both campgrounds are in pines. The upper one is right by the inlet, so if you have kids, you might want to stick with the lower campground. The main road is on the west side. Many people canoe there, but boats with motors are not prohibited and there is a boat ramp. Most of the shore fishing is done from the West side too.

Most of the fish are planters, but sometimes you'll be rewarded with a brookie. The last couple of years I have caught some smaill tiger trout.

[#ff0000]The scenery is incredible, the fish are small, the campgrounds tend to fill up fast especially the usual holidays and weekends. I haven't fished it much because the fishing is soooo much better up the trails into the Uinta's and National Forest. You can usually do better from a boat than from the shore and boats are restricted to wakeless speed. If you are into just the fish it may not be all that exciting for you, if you are into the whole experience it's a wonderful place.[/#ff0000]
