The work, travel, other tx schedule finally allowed me to fish the CFF for the first time. My son Chris and I had a really good time fishing the event. The fishing was not very good for us today as far as big fish. We did catch lots of fish in depth ranges of 4-12 feet but the deep fish we had been on this week would not cooperate yesterday. We caught fish on crankbaits, worms, jigs, and spoons. We lost a couple today but nothing huge. We only weighed in 8.5 lbs I think and our biggest was a 3 lb 12oz LM. emoRolleyes Chris wore me out catching keepers yesterday...which I'm sure he will remind me of all week. emoBig
We did fish the combo CATCH/CFF and it was a fun and laid back tourney for a good cause.
The only issue we had was at the weigh-in. We arrived right at 2 o'clock and had to beach the boat at the first point on the left going into the weigh-in cove. I asked someone with the tourn. if we were going in a certain order for weigh-in and we were told we needed to get our fish up there(we could not see it from the boat). We got our fish out and headed to the scales and immediately realized this was a bad idea. About 40 min. later, the fish were weighed. The 3-12 fish was in bad shape so we took it back to the boat to put it in the live well for a little while with the U2 formula and Oxygenator running. While at the boat, I thought I heard my name called over the speaker. My son yelled out to them from the boat and we then headed back to the weigh-in area. The CATCH announcer asked "where were you?" and stated "you guys were in the money but you were not here!" So they gave our money to someone else!??? First of all, this was not a door prize, it was for placing and secondly WE WERE THERE and would have been standing there if we didn't have to try to revive a fish from such a lengthy weigh in. I didn't make an issue of it because it wasn't much, this was a charity/fun tourney, and because my son then won $100 toward a custom built rod of his choice emoThumbsup . That's enough crying I suppose and again, we did have a great day of fishing!
