I was worried that the fish wouldn't cooperate as the water temp had gone from 78 late last week in some spots to 64. The low 40s predicted in the AM and winds that were predicted made me think that it would be tough fishing. I was hoping that most of the creek would be clear but found out when we got out there that the whole creek was muddy. Arggggg, what to do. My partner hadn't bass fished much at all in the past and that was going to make it even tougher to figure out how to get fish on the line. We started fishing some deep brush in WT where the crappies had been good to me recently but the water was muddy and the wind was blowing right across where I wanted to fish and there were no biters there. We went into a slough and started throwing what I call dummy baits, crankbaits, that's about all I could think of to get a few bites with the wind so bad. No takers there so we went to a slough that a fellow CFFer had shared with me and it was a good move. We ended up catching quite a few, 8-10 or so with the biggest being 4.5lbs. A couple of others over 2lbs. Most of them were on the crankbaits bumping the bottom. We made a couple of passes across the flats with cuts through them and most of the fish seemed to be associated with the cuts through the flats. When the crankbait bite stopped I was hoping that a carolina rig with a heavy sinker would work even with the stiff wind and it got us a couple more keepers. We fished from about 10:30am to 2pm. Not a great day but a good one. Great to be out there with a good friend. I'll post a couple of pics in a while. My batteries fell out of my camera again, otherwise you guys might think that I had a great day fishing that Jan. 1st a few years ago. That happens to me a lot with the batteries.
