Kingfish, Riverpark, Crappie, Bass, Bluegill, 5-23-09, Rick
#1
Rick and I got out early this morning. Put in the RP about 6:15 am fishing until about 12:00. We hoped we could beat the Sat. Holiday crowd. For the most part we did beat the weekend folks. Started out fishing lizards and gitzits for spotted bass. For the first thirty minutes the action was brisk. Then the bite slowed down as the water flow seemed to be nonexistent. Don't know the total of bass we caught but got home with 15 to fillet. Mostly fished riprap casting up to the edge of the water and bank. The water temp. was 71* (a degree higher than yesterday).

After the bass bite slowed we tried fishing for crappie. Fished in 8-10' fow using pearl/baby shad colored PA with tails dipped in chartreuse. The bite was pretty consistent catching a total of 38 fish but the size was off. Kept 6 keepers out of the bunch.

Did fish for some bluegill the last part of our fishing trip. I'll bet if we caught 1 we caught 50 goggle eyes! They were everywhere. We did have fun pulling them in though. Don't keep the red eyes just the bluegill. Fished with crickets on the btm in about 8-12' fow of water. Most of the bigger bluegill were caught in 8' fow. Too tired and lazy to count the bluegill so no headcount to be reported.
