Live bait Lake Mead Sunday
#1
Sunday, 05/24/09- Hit the water early (4:45 am). Motored to Las Vegas Wash on glass to look for bait. Found shad in the back cove on the Lake Shore Road side to the left of where the wash now flows into the lake (the cove that used to contain the floating outhouse).

A nice Mako with twin Honda outboards slides quietly into the cove to search for shad.

Tossed the net for about 40 minutes to fill the live wells. Shad were chased into the brush and gunk along the shoreline by the birds, resulting in all kinds of funk being hauled in with the bait. Yuck! Only jammed the trolling motor into the bottom twice. Headed out to a point off Cresent Island and anchored.

First striper of the morning. Nice, fat, three pounder.

The Mako joins us. What a great morning on the water!
Gov't Wash in the background.

After about an hour, action slows so we pull anchor and head downstream. Ended up anchoring in a cove across from Sand Island on the Lake Shore Road side of the lake.

Nice striper comes to live bait.

Another nice striper comes to live bait.

Ended up with an ice chest full of nice stripers. Off the water by 11:30 am. The ramp at Boulder Harbor was packed with happy boaters trying to launch. It was interesting!

Awesome man. That's a good haul.

I just got back from a 6 day fishing trip in upstate New York. It was pretty bad ass up there. Channel cats to 15 lbs, largemouth everywhere, smallies, rock bass, fat bluegill... It was a sick trip. My dad even caught a 7 lb bowfin! Crazy prehistoric looking fish with a nasty set of teeth.

Now I have got to get back to my home lake where I feel like I know what I'm doing!

Sounds like you all had a great time. I have never been to New York. I would like to try their saltwater striper fishing sometime.

Fantastic report Baysport! Enjoyed the pics.

Thanks, pictures bring the post to life. I always carry my camera with me now.

We didn't go out this weekend, but hope to go out this week.

It's tough to miss a weekend when the fish are biting! I'm heading for Utah this weekend, maybe get into some trout. Good luck!

Got our bait net ready!

We have found bait on our last two trips to the Las Vegas Wash. Everyone has for that matter! Hope it continues.
