Dad and I went out on the water about 5:15pm yesterday. We fished hard around the island with SB, frogs and poppers in and out every nock and cranny. After an hour we only had a couple short strikes on the frogs. So we decided to downsize and started throwing 1/4oz jigging spoons and swimming them over the grass in 3-4 ft of water. First cast I hooked a good keeper, but it threw it right at the boat. the next three casts, fish on, jump and fish off. I decided to set the drag tighter to get a better hook set and didn't have another fish to throw the bait. My dad finally and reluctantly changed from a 3/8oz SB to the 1/4 jigging spoon and immediately got bit. We would alternate to a SB when the bite slowed and would pick off 1 or 2 bass before having to switch back to the spoon. I also caught a 5lb bluecat on the SB. Best bite I have ever had on SB, i almost lost my rod. In all we had 20 bass in the next two hours with the majority 1.5- 2.5lb and a kicker 5 pounder. The day ended as the sun set over the hwy 60 bridge as we loaded the boat on the trailor. Good day fishing with the old man.
