Katies first day of tubing.
#1
My daughter Katie has been wanting to go float tubbing for a while but never said anything. She asked me to take her and so Monday was her day, day 4 of a long fishing weekend. The Rain ran us back to the truck a couple of times but we had a great time. She got 5 fish, all were planters.
After a while she lost focus so we headed for town to get lunch. We found out her loaned waders leaked[shocked]
She didn't want to go in to eat because it looked like she peed her pants. Anyway here is a couple of pictures of my baby girl. Ron

[cool][#0000ff]During the summer, when the water is at least over 60 degrees, you can tube "wet"...wearing a pair of loose fitting pants and some tennies. Be sure to wear something longer than shorts or swimming suit or you get sunburned legs.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Take along a change of clothes and you got it handled.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We do without waders for several months during the summer. The only waters we wear the waders are those with "swimmers' itch" organisms. Only a couple of those in Utah. [/#0000ff]

Just asking.

[cool][#0000ff]Swimmers' itch is what you get when the tiny parasitic microorganisms in certain waters get on your skin and then burrow just beneath the surface. As the following link informs, the critters are the larval form of a flatworm.[/#0000ff]

I think I will pass on the old "swimmers itch" sounds like a nasty deal. Ron

Oh no ! Not for me , thank you.
Waiters only, no matter what the temp. of the water is.

Good info on avoiding sunburned legs. Loose thin ripstop nylon works well for me and it dries pretty fast. There are also umbrella kits you can install to help protect the upper body like Mantis http://www.pro-techt.com/?gclid=CMqeuena...nAodSklBog I have a homemade version that uses any small beach umbrella which fits a PVC socket on the back of my seat. Calm, shady water offers sun protection on rivers and is usually good fishing as well.

Thanks for the link on swimmer's itch, TD. Good thing to know since I never use waders. May not be as much of an issue in rivers, as I've not noticed any snails in my area.

Wonder whether there will be a tick issue around water this year. Thinking of doing some tooning in the Denver area later this summer.

Ciao.

[cool][#0000ff]My understanding is that swimmers itch is pretty much limited to warm shallow ponds and lakes with mud bottoms. Never heard of it being a problem in flowing waters.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Here in Utah there are notices posted on the waters that are known to have the little nasties. Don't know about other states. It really is not a widespread problem.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Here is a pic of a "Tube Bimini" sun shade I whupped up with some PVC and some blue tarp material. Fits down into the PVC frame of my seat back extension. Rolls up for storage when not needed and pops in place quickly to fend off hot sun and raindrops.[/#0000ff]

I have come across LEECHES on my waders in some waters. WADERS FOR ME, except rivers, then it is shorts and wading shoes.

As for the canopy's, I will stick to the Cowboy or Lochsa hat I wear. Bad enough hanging onto them in the wind...but a SAIL!!!!! Nope, not today.
And my luck, the wind will be blowing AWAY from shore.

About the craziest thing I can add this year would be the 5 hrsp gas motor.

I've had swimmers itch a few times in my life. It hurts like crazy. Feels like I'm being stabbed with needles and it just won't stop. Usually lasted for me about 3 days. Usually up around the back of my neck and back. All from lakes in OH

In troduced the wife to it 10 years ago and she likes to go out floatin. Just started to introduce the two troutlings to it and they want more. The youngest I am starting to outfit this year. They enjoy going out with dad and floating. Also introduced the nephew last year and now I need to outfit him as well. He don't have a dad so I will help him out. I have been told to purchase two round tubes for them this year. So looks like when I am healed and can get out for some tubing this summer (injured foot two weeks ago) I will take the family out for some fun on the water. Thinking Jordanelle or the Uintas for them.

I like the bimini, I was thinking of something like this but who knows. Gotta see how it would fit first.
