drumking, chickamauga, crappie, 6/12/09, Hal
#1
Friday and Hal's day off and that usually means a crappie trip in the offing. This morning was no exception. We started very early in order to beat the heat, water chiggers, and late AM cruisers. We fished from 6:00 AM til 12:00 noon. It was our 2nd best trip together as we landed 110 crappie, 3 bass and 1 tiny bluegill that is lucky that we weren't catfishing. emoBigSmile

Lake temp was around 81 degrees about mid-morning. I didn't look at noon. Calm water, slight currrent, and perfect conditions for summer crappie fishing. Basically I just repeated what Fishing Machine and I did yesterday. I knew that Terry was going out this morning too, so I went in the opposite direction from him and finally saw him just before we quit. He was schooling a young teenager on the art of crappie angling. At noon just as we were getting ready to quit, the current suddenly picked up to a very good flow. It was 13,000 cfs early and most of the morning, I think. I haven't checked the TVA data yet.

The fish were deep and mostly on a 14 plus count today. I used both 1/16 and 1/32 oz jigs. Crystal shad that I have doctored up. See yesterday's report and look at the colors of the jigs. We tried a couple of different colors, but the fish would just shut off when we did. Put the blue/chartreuse back on and start catching fish. Sometimes it is good to know what they will not hit as much as what they will.

All fish yesterday and today were released to grow even bigger. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
